Invest in Protecting Our Environment
For too long, our communities have been treated as disposable by city leadership and corporate polluters. The MAT Asphalt Plant is just one example of how our community’s health has been traded for corporate profit. Our community has so much beauty to offer and it should be safe for our neighbors to enjoy green spaces without risking their health. We must protect our environment, our health and our future.
As Alderwoman, I will:
Fight to shut down the MAT Asphalt Plant and prevent any more corporate polluters from coming to the ward.
Champion the re-establishment of the city’s Department of the Environment that will be tasked with creating a robust plan to transition the city’s fleet and facilities to clean energy. This department must be fully funded, increase the number of city inspectors and tasked with enforcing local air quality laws and pollution.
Hold local polluters and bad actors accountable to protect residents’ health over corporate profits and protect residents from environmental burdens.
Advocate for more air sensors across the city to compare air quality and establish thresholds with other areas to know what levels of clean air we should strive for.
