Community Health
Invest in Holistic Approach to Health
The Covid-19 pandemic has shown us that the health and well-being of our communities needs to be treated as a number one priority. I will advocate for a holistic approach to community health that includes both our mental health and physical health. We can build healthy communities in our neighborhoods with the necessary and accessible resources we deserve.
As Alderwoman, I will:
Fight to re-open the public mental health clinics shuttered by the Emanuel administration under the leadership of the previous 12th ward Alderman.
Protect and improve our public parks and open space for youth activities and neighborhood recreation. Open spaces and parks are not an amenity, but a necessity for all communities. Thus, I will not support the use of public parks for corporate profit without a Community Benefits Agreement in place.
Treat the lead in our water as a public health emergency and advocate for a citywide jobs program to remove and replace all lead water service lines.
Propose the creation of subgrants to support sustainable community gardens, in partnership with the Chicago Food Depository, to combat food scarcity in communities designed as food deserts.
