Invest in Housing as a Human Right 

I believe we have a responsibility to make sure everyone has secure housing and can afford to remain in our community. I will support any effort to expand affordable housing, create opportunities for first time homebuyers, and ensure seniors can continue to live comfortably in our communities. 

As Alderwoman, I will: 

• Support initiatives like the Additional Dwelling Unit program which will provide much needed affordable housing units by allowing homeowners to build rental units that will increase property value. 

• Work with the Illinois Department of Housing Authority, the Chicago Housing Authority, and affordable housing developers to ensure that we are expanding affordable housing stock and providing direct assistance to families looking to become homeowners. We must leverage public assets like the city-owned lots program and the Cook County Land Bank for mixed income housing and short term housing for our unhoused neighbors. 

• Expand housing resources and push for equitable transit-oriented development particularly around our CTA Orange Line stations. 

• Allocate funding for long-term care programs that provide seniors the care they need and allow them to remain in their homes living fully independent lives. 

• Advocate for property tax reform, vote against any more property tax increases, and commit to reverse Mayor Lightfoot's tax hike which now ties property tax rates to inflation.
